1. Injecting into chlorinated municipal water

Chlorine is a disinfectant — it is designed to kill bacteria, and it does not distinguish between pathogens and your Azotobacter. If your source is treated water, fill a tank and let it stand open for 12–24 hours before use, or switch to borewell/canal water.

2. Applying at midday

Soil surface temperature in an Indian summer afternoon can cross 45 °C in the top few centimetres. Evening application gives the culture the whole night to move into the root zone before heat returns.

3. Tank-mixing with fungicide or copper

Mycorrhiza is a fungus, and the Trichoderma and Pseudomonas in consortia products are living organisms. A systemic fungicide or copper oxychloride in the same tank neutralises them. Keep a 7-day gap either side.

4. Flushing at full pressure through a fine screen filter

Release the biofertilizer after the filter, through the venturi or fertigation pump, during the tail end of the irrigation run. Then run plain water for 10–15 minutes to push the microbes fully out of the laterals — otherwise they sit in the pipe and die.

5. Storing the drum in direct sun
