Biofertilizer for Tomato in India (2026): Seedling Dip, Dose per Acre and Cost for the Rabi Transplant
Short answer: for a rabi tomato transplant, dip the seedling roots in 10 ml of Orgogrowth biofertilizer per litre of water for 30 minutes, then give 2-3 litres of Mycorrhiza (VAM) Liquid or 3-4 litres of NPK+VAM Consortia per acre through drip in 200 litres of water. At our live prices that is about ₹232-348 per acre for Mycorrhiza Liquid (₹116/litre) or ₹282-376 per acre for NPK+VAM (₹94/litre) per application.
Quotable line: tomato roots need the fungus on them on day one, so the seedling dip at transplanting matters more than any later drench.
Why transplanting day decides the result
Tomato is a transplanted crop, and a seedling pulled from a nursery tray loses part of its fine root hair. Mycorrhiza (VAM) needs 2-3 weeks to colonise roots, so applying it at transplanting gives far more benefit than applying it at flowering. Our Mycorrhiza Liquid is made with Glomus intraradices and Glomus mosseae and is specified at a minimum of 100 spores / 1,200 IP per ml, with root colonisation of 70% or more and 30-50% better phosphorus uptake. Phosphorus matters in tomato because DAP applied to the soil is quickly locked up, and VAM extends the effective reach of the root so the plant can pick up phosphorus the roots alone cannot.
Which Orgogrowth product for tomato?
- Want one drum to cover nitrogen, phosphorus, potash and roots: NPK+VAM Consortia 50 Ltr (₹4,699). It carries Azotobacter chroococcum, Pseudomonas spp. (PSB) and Frateuria aurantia (KMB) at a specified 2×10⁸ CFU/ml or more each (FCO minimum is 1×10⁸), plus Glomus at 200 IP/ml or more.
- Want the root and phosphorus booster only, with a tight cost per acre: Mycorrhiza VAM Liquid 50 Ltr (₹5,800).
- Small plot or nursery tray treatment: Mycorrhiza VAM Powder 1 Kg (₹2,499, 6,000 IP/gm), used at about 100 g per acre.
Step-by-step schedule for rabi tomato
- Day of transplanting (seedling dip): mix 10 ml of product per litre of clean water and dip the root zone of the seedlings for 30 minutes. Transplant the same day and irrigate lightly.
- At transplanting or within the first irrigation: drench or drip 2-3 L per acre of Mycorrhiza Liquid, or 3-4 L per acre of NPK+VAM, diluted in 200 litres of water.
- 30 days after transplanting: repeat the NPK+VAM application (the label schedule is transplanting + 30 days). The VAM-only product is mainly a transplanting-time input.
What it costs per acre
One 50-litre drum of Mycorrhiza Liquid at 2-3 L per acre treats roughly 16-25 acres, and one drum of NPK+VAM at 3-4 L per acre treats roughly 12-16 acres. Two NPK+VAM applications (transplanting and 30 days) therefore cost about ₹564-752 per acre. Our NPK+VAM page estimates a saving of ₹4,000-6,000 per acre on chemical fertiliser, and the NPK component is specified to save about 25% N, 25% P and 20% K. Treat these as label estimates, not a guarantee: soil, variety and irrigation change the outcome, so trial it on one block first and compare against an untreated block.
Mistakes to avoid
- Do not tank-mix with chemical fungicides such as Carbendazim or Mancozeb. Keep a 7-10 day gap before or after, because fungicides kill the beneficial fungus and bacteria.
- Do not apply to bone-dry soil. Moisten the bed first so the microbes survive.
- Do not expect a chemical-style overnight response. Biofertilisers work through the root system and show up as better establishment in the first 3 weeks.
- Check the label numbers. FCO 1985 sets a minimum of 1×10⁸ CFU/ml for N, P and K carriers, and a lab-tested count per batch is the only way to know what is in the drum. Orders are online-payment only (no COD), dispatched in 24-48 hours with free delivery across India.
Frequently asked questions
How much biofertilizer does tomato need per acre?
2-3 litres of Mycorrhiza VAM Liquid or 3-4 litres of NPK+VAM Consortia per acre in 200 litres of water, plus a 10 ml per litre seedling dip.
What does it cost per acre?
About ₹232-348 per application for Mycorrhiza Liquid and ₹282-376 for NPK+VAM, based on ₹116 and ₹94 per litre.
Can I use it through drip?
Yes. Dilute in 200 litres of water and run it through a clean drip system; flush the lines afterwards.
Can I mix it with urea or DAP?
Apply it separately from chemical fungicides. For fertiliser, reduce chemical NPK in line with a trial rather than cutting everything at once.
Is it FCO compliant?
Yes, our products are made to FCO 1985 specifications in an ISO 9001:2015 certified unit in Mehsana, Gujarat.
